About James K. Broden

James K. Broden is a seasoned creative professional with over 30 years of experience as an advertising art director. With a background in writing copy and a trained eye as an illustrator, James has honed his storytelling skills across various mediums. Currently, he brings his artistic vision to life as a freelance concept artist for Ubisoft, where he stays busy helping shape the worlds of tomorrow’s games.

James studied English literature at Concordia University before pursuing a degree in illustration and design. He now blends his literary insights with his visual artistry, creating immersive narratives that captivate and inspire. When he's not crafting stories or designing worlds, he enjoys walking his two large dogs and shooting baskets in his backyard.

James's debut novel, The Pacific Arcanum, showcases his unique ability to weave the extraordinary into the everyday, drawing readers into a richly imagined urban fantasy realm.

A note from the author

"The photo above is one I've been using for a while now. Since I was already bald and my beard pure gray, I don't feel too bad about deceiving people that I'm even older now. The sheepish look is due to the fact that I had the shots generously taken by a friend who happens to be a professional photographer. The burden of trying to photograph someone so pale, freckled and Irish could not have been easy. (Thank you again, Maurice!)

As for my first novel, I'm proud of the accomplishment. I truly enjoyed creating characters and moving them about in my own little world. The editing process, not so much. I would describe it as performing a slow root canal on oneself with pliers and a cracked hand mirror. If I am lucky enough to see this tome published, I look forward to writing the next two tales about our protagonist Daxton Ridley whose plots, in their infancy, are already roughed out.

I would be remiss if I didn't thank my wife Sandra for all of her support over the two and a half years that it took to finish the book. Her invaluable help and patience deserve more praise than this webpage has room for. Thanks also to Simon and Martin, who offered to be the first, brave guinea pigs (after the Mrs.) to digest my Arcanum. I do hope they are the first of many. "

Cheers,

JKB
